A collection of top games from Midway’s past all in one nice little package for the PSP. Sounds good right? Unfortunately Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play fails on almost all levels, and makes some of our favorite classics from yesteryear look awful in the process. Like many ideas, the concept here is great, it is just the execution that is horrible. The plus side of this collection is that it includes 21 different Midway games, ranging from Mortal Kombat to Rampage. Now for the bad news. Most of these titles do not even play like the originals, or look just plain ugly on the PSP. The Mortal Kombat games alone have so many problems it feels as if someone remade them and took most of the fun out in the process. The sound is off a lot, the framerate feels messed up, and the sheer amount and length of load times is absolutely ridiculous. Other games like Joust just look bad. Some games do actually look and play alright, but it is really sad that the main attractions here like the Mortal Kombat games are so poorly done. Avoid this game and play your originals instead.
