In a nutshell: Over 40 classic Genesis titles on one disc, all updated for HD.
Why you should play it: 40 great Genesis games (49 total after unlocking them all), including all of the Sonic, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Phantasy Star titles. Games look very nice in HD, much better than stretching standard-def classics on your HDTV. Most games still hold up very well, and will provide many hours of fun for gamers of all ages. Menu is a nice touch, and makes sorting your favorites easier than ever. Ability to save anytime. Very high replay value. Plenty of achievements and games to unlock.
Why you might want to avoid it: Missing some key Genesis titles like Toe Jam & Earl. No online support, which is not the worst thing for these types of games but still would have been a nice addition. Not much else to complain about, as most of these classics are awesome.
Final Thoughts: Although Sega releases classic collections like this much too often, this collection is by far their best effort to date. Updating these classics to HD is a great idea that I personally was hoping someone would do. This game is well worth the $29.99 pricetag. Here’s to Sega for finally doing it right.
