Review – NHL 2K9
In a nutshell: NHL 2K9 is yet again stuck playing backup to EA’s starter and clear cut number 1, NHL 09.
Why you should play it: Includes real goal horns and goal songs. The ice looks good. Can be very challenging. Plays better than most previous versions of the title. New simplified controls work well enough.
Why you might want to avoid it: Graphics, especially player models, don’t even compare to every other next gen sports title out there. Still plays like a last gen title most of the time. Cheap goals will constantly annoy and anger you. Commentary could be better. AI is confusing and makes strange decisions at times. Goalies still don’t move quite as fluidly as they should.
Final Thoughts: Unfortunately, 2K9 is once again not even in the same league as the EA Sports masterpiece that is NHL 09. While there still can be some enjoyment found in this game, you’ll still long for NHL 09 when its all said and done.
